Un Canadien Errant

from Cowlix All Over by The Cowlix

/

about

Lamenting the misery of exile, this French-language number was written in 1842 by a French Canadien man following the Lower Canada Rebellion of 1837–38. I heard it first by Leonard Cohen (who recorded it in a mariachi style, of all things) and later by Ian & Sylvia, among other folksingers. This early Cowlix selection was one of the most durable in our repertoire. This is a rehearsal recording from 1992.
